JANUARY 2009
Prospects for the year 2009

More than ever, the year 2009 will be an occasion for HRA Pharma to strengthen their collaboration with the United Nations Fund for the Population and with the Health Ministry of Niger.

Our objective is to create educational elements adapted to the local environment to optimize the training / education in relation to the insertion of IUDs. So, finally the project is going to see the light! As a matter of fact, HRA Pharma is going to lend € 10 000 as financial aid to the Health Ministry with the following objectives:

Acquisition of training material:

  • Purchase of a digital camera for use in documenting cases before and after insertion of the IUD (tolerance to the string, rejection of IUD, the position of the cervix and other clinical information of importance) and during training sessions for students and healthcare professionals, supported by pictures.
  • Purchase of a shadowless lamp to serve as light source during insertion of IUDs (the lighting currently being in poor condition and not allowing a good field of light for the insertion of the IUD's).

Preparation of materials: leaflets and visual support

  • The leaflets will contain depictions of copper IUD's, a description of the scope of use and monitoring boards for users. It will furthermore provide information to women wanting to know more about the IUD before actually using it. This leaflet will be distributed free of charge.
  • The visual aids will be used by the 'Counseling' part of the project to educate couples at the National Center of Reproductive Health and at other sites where IUD's are inserted. This is for a better understanding of the device and its functions. These materials will also be useful to during the training of people that are responsible to create awareness on the community level.
