Mona Lisa Africa
Cameroon
According to figures published by the UNDP (United Nations Development Programme) the Cameroon is in position 47 on the list of developing countries. In 2005 the population reached a number of 17 340.702 of which 41.2% was under the age of 15 years.
The health and human development are still very low. Nevertheless, many efforts have been made for several years to reduce poverty and ensure fair access to medical care.
The fertility rate index is expected to be 5 children per woman in 2008. Given the lack of proper sex-education at home and at school as well as the ignorance regarding modern methods of contraception, it is no wonder that the magnitude of early pregnancy, reaches nearly 30% of girls.
